Thoughts and Experiences of a Volunteer in PNG
If you have stumbled onto this then you have also stumbled onto an Australian volunteers thoughts and experiences from the field in Papua New Guinea.
Over the time that I will be here I will hopefully post some of my experiences that I no doubt will happen as well as various thoughts, observations or whatever that comes into my head.
As a bit of background so that things I say make sense, I am up here on my own free will as a volunteer through the organisation Australian Volunteers International. I have a 2 year contract with a Papua New Guinean university as a Technical Officer. I will keep posting as to how I go.
As to why I decided to volunteer. Well it is not because I am running away from anything or anyone, it is because my philosophy is that life should be full of experiences. Working day in and day out at the same office, doesn't offer much in the way of new experiences. Plus when I look back on the experience here in 50 years time, at least I will have some good stories for the grand-kids (if my memory holds out).
I also have done well out the whole IT boom over the last few years, so I figure now is a perfect time to put something back. Of course this can be a challenge in itself!
